What is a dental emergency?

Any traumatic injury that results in pain, fracture, or bleeding.

Any swelling with or without pain.

What should I do if my tooth has been knocked out?

If the tooth can be recovered lightly rinse it and store it in saline (saline for eye contacts is perfect, if saline is unavailable water is ok). Time for re-implantation of the tooth is very limited so please call/come to Northern Heights Dental immediately. If the tooth is a baby tooth it will not be replanted but an examination is necessary to ensure the adult teeth below are undamaged and still growing.

What if my tooth is pushed out of position?

Avoid touching/repositioning the tooth. Contact or come to Northern Heights Dental immediately.

What if my tooth is chipped, cracked or fractured?

If a large chip comes off, place the chip in a saline solution (water is ok) it may be able to be bonded to the tooth. Cracks and fractures need to be examined and treated right away to prevent propagation that can result in further pain or even tooth loss.

Regular dental care and examinations will help prevent many emergencies by ensuring that there are no underlying conditions that will contribute to tooth loss, fractures, or infections.
